It seems Apple has finally decided to name the next phone in the iPhone legacy as iPhone 5.
Apple has just issued invites for its much awaited media event which promises to reveal more about the next iPhone. The event, to be hosted at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 12th of September.
The invite is in typical Apple style, and has caused a huge amount of curiosity amongst the people. It has a tagline reading; ‘It’s almost here’ with the number 12 below. While 12 obviously stands for the date of the event (September 12), the shadow below has a shape of the number 5. This prompted us to conclude that the event is in fact to tell us about the new iPhone 5.
It seemed like competition was finally catching up with the iPhone, with some reports that the Galaxy S3 had outsold the Apple iPhone 4S on 3 out of 4 major carriers in the US. This was the first time that the iPhone was outsold since its launch, and Apple would try to regain its place with the iPhone 5.
There are also reports of the iPad mini, a smaller version of the iPad that Apple has lined up in the pipeline, but it doesn’t seem like this media event would have to do anything with that. Apple would like to reserve the iPad mini for another time, and another media event, which we believe will come in the next few months.
The competition is not resting either. Nokia and Microsoft have also recently scheduled a media event where it is believed, they will launch their new smartphones to compete with the iPhone. Amazon is also hosting an event next week to unveil two new versions of Amazon Kindle Fire.
